Before opening a new gallery in the San Diego area, Shanna flew me over to California to work with her on a four day intensive surfboard painting workshop. Over the course of just a few days, Shanna and I worked together and I took her through all the steps necessary to create two awesome surfboard artworks. Some of the skills we worked on were preparing surfboards for painting, basic spray painting skills and advanced acrylic blending and portraiture. The results were two amazing boards that she is stoked to be hanging in her new gallery in March. I’ll be back in LA/San Diego from next week for 2 months – anyone wanting workshops please get in touch!

Davy Jones surfboard commission success!
Finally got around to processing the final photos of Ryan’s Davy Jones surfboard that I painted a few weeks ago. It was one of my most challenging commissions, but it was awesome to have the opportunity and scope and really give my painting skills a workout.
If you’re interested in having a board custom painted, visit http://www.fieldey.com/commissions.html and fill in the form and I’ll get back to you with a quote.

Gidgets go Picasso Surf Art Workshop
I led eight workshoppers through a four step cleaning process to prepare their boards for painting and demonstrated some of my favourite old-school spray techniques using Molotow spray paint and a handy palm frond and then let them loose on the supplies.
At the end of the day we ended up with nine completely different artworks, each one a unique expression of creativeness and ready to hit the waves.
The workshop was held in conjunction with Venus Goes Gidget and hosted by myself. Molotow Australia sponsored the paints and more workshops are in the pipeline for August 2015 – so sign up to my blog if you want to come along to the next one! Big thanks also to Matt Fieldes Photography for these lovely photos.
Balcatta Senior High surfboard art workshops
I’ve been having a blast doing a surfboard painting workshop at Balcatta Senior High for the past 3 weeks. It’s for the Gifted and Talented Arts Program and I’m stoked with the progress these guys are making! How lucky are they to go to a school that offers these kinds of programs… the best we used to get was still-life painting and Lino cutting!
More Fieldey workshops are going to be coming to Sydney and Perth this year – if you’re interested in participating or want to suggest a location please contact me with the details.

Students preparing their boards for painting – we’re using second hand boards so they need a fair amount of cleaning.

Shark love ~ Hawaii pinup style
After three weeks in the making, this beautiful custom made and painted board is ready to be shipped to Karen in Florida! Karen contacted me via my website, asking if I could hand paint a surfboard for her. Working with my pals at Oceanline Surfboards here in Western Australia, we created this 6’8″ Funboard Egg with custom deck sprays and artwork. This baby is going to be queen of the waves!
Pictures of the whole process are below, but if you’re interested in having a board painted or getting a custom Fieldey inlay for a board you are having made, please either contact me or fill in the commissions form on my website.

Taking the board back to the shapers, we coat it in 2-pack clear coat to protect the artwork for surfing

New paint marker tutorial in the bag
Last month I was on location at The Apple in Bridgetown filming Episode 2 of my 3-part surfboard painting tutorials. I’m just winding up the film editing and thought I’d post a few screen caps from the clip – I think this one’s going to be a real corker!
Massive thank you to Matt Fieldes Photography for the pro filming, The Butcher Shop for the beautiful location, Star Surf and Skate for the surfboard and Molotow Australia for the excellent paint.

New online surfboard graphics store is here!
I’m very proud to announce the birth of my very first online store – Fieldey’s Kustom Board Graphics!
Whether you’re getting a surfboard made and want to order an inlay to protect and strengthen your board, or you want to give an old board a new lease on life with a full board vinyl decal, you’ll find something rad here! All the artworks have been hand painted by yours truly, and are available to purchase in a variety of sizes to suit your stick.
Mike ordered the Hula Bula Hellcat inlay for his 9’1 McTavish custom mal, it was printed on a silk polymer mesh inlay and then glassed into the bottom of the board by McTavish’s talented team of shapers. I think it looks awesome, and he’s stoked with it as well! The artwork is 100% permanent, UV resistant and it also doubles the strength of the fibreglass.
Check out the full range of Fieldey designs available as either inlays or full board vinyl decals – which one is your favourite?
Don’t drink and drown surfboard art
Wowza! It’s been a stinking hot last couple of days and I’ve been painting frantically trying to get this surfboard finished before I head off on holiday to Sri Lanka tomorrow… and here it is!
It’s for the Royal Life Saving Society of WA’s “Don’t drink and drown” appeal, and I reckon it has the best and most intense skull I’ve painted to date!
